All About Becoming A Pilot

pilot trainingThe dream of flight has captured man for thousands of years, but it wasn’t until the Wright Brothers would create the world’s first functioning airplane that the cornerstone was laid for man to fly, and fly long distances. Granted, others previous had invented ways for humans to fly as far back as 1783. In that year, the French Montgolfier brothers who’d been pioneering hot air balloon use, completed work on a balloon which was taken to the skies by the intrepid Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d’Arlandes in Annonay, France. Today, balloons are used largely for recreational use.

The airplane, on the other hand, has a much greater range than a hot air balloon and is far more practical, though it to is also commonly used for recreation. Many are seeking to get into flying for that very reason, and others for employment purposes. The facts are, there are many more hurdles to becoming a pilot[ than there are to driving a car. But it can be done.

Up front, you ought not feel discouraged if you wear glasses. The myth that you must have 20/20 vision to fly still persists, but this is not the case. Your eyesight ought to be 20/20, but it is fine if this is achieved with the aid of corrective lenses.
Also, you should know that if you’re aiming to become a commercial airline pilot, you’ve got a much longer road ahead of you than if you wish to get a private pilot’s license to cruise around on a nice sunny summer Sunday. The investment for schooling can be comparable to that of getting a university degree, and the standards to pass are sky high. However, the rewards can be great. Generally, a pilot that has a commercial license will begin their career with a courier company such as UPS or DHL. Later, they might get into passenger airline flying, as most airlines like to see some commercial experience before hiring. Pay is not excellent, to begin with, but gets better with more seniority. If you join another airline, you usually start right back at the bottom no matter how many flying hours you’ve got under your belt.

To get a private pilot’s license, the cost is much lower than a commercial one. There are many schools throughout the country that you can get a private pilot’s license from, and the types of licenses they issue vary. You must be at least seventeen and pass a physical before you can be granted a license. Once you sign up with a flight school, you will complete a lot of classroom time, learning about aircraft instrument use, how to fly, and how to recover from bad situations, such as engine failure. In addition to time spent in the classroom, your instructor will also take you up in a plane where you will learn to apply what you did in the classroom. They will then evaluate your progress, and even work on any problems you might experience one on one in a simulator. Once you have completed the amount of hours needed and passed all your tests, you will be granted a private license from the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA.

To find out more, you might visit your local airfield or airport. There are often schools or aviation clubs around the area or at the airport that can help you find out more. Alternatively, search online for “pilot training”  to find out more.
